January ICLW Welcome!

Hello all! It’s one of my favorite times of the month because it’s ICLW time again. In case you don’t know about ICLW, check it out here. It’s also a great time for me here at Stress Free Infertility because I recently celebrated my 2 year Blogiversary and I’m very proud of how much this blog has grown in the last two years. And, I’m most excited about my memoir, Ordinary Miracles, which is nearly finished and will be out to the public within the next couple of months! And, in case you missed it in my last post, I was recently awarded Editor’s Choice recognition by my publishing company and I am so very honored!

Here’s a little bit about me in case this is your first time here. I went through 6 IVF cycles (3 fresh and 3 frozen) over a 3 year span and I now have an almost 5  year old daughter and 2 year old boy/girl twins. I teach 1st grade full time and I live in NY, on Long Island with my husband, my three miracles, and my boxer Toby. I decided to write this blog (and my memoir) to help others through their infertility journey. This blog is also on Facebook and Twitter (and I would LOVE some more followers and friends there!) I will also be creating a website for my book and keep you all posted on that as well.

I am now working on my next book which will be a collection of success stories, stress free techniques that worked, and advice from those who’ve been there. I usually post stories on Sunday (but I don’t have a new one to post today). If you’ve been successful and would like to share your story here and in my new book, go to Calling All Success Stories to get the Q & A format I use. If you’d like to read stories I’ve already featured, go to Success Stories.

It’s a new year, here’s a recycled post to keep you focused: Get Your Zzzzs! And, we’ve had some snow this past weekend here in NY. If you’re experiencing cold weather near you, here’s a recycled post about keeping warm: Hydrate Your Body, Warm Your Belly.

Thanks so much for stopping by! ;-)

Happy January ICLW!

Promises and opportunities…

Ok, so I know I promised a blog love post tonight. It’s been a while since I had one and I apologize. But, I have exciting news and an opportunity I just can’t ignore right now. I recently received Editor’s Choice recognition with my publishing company for my memoir which I was told only goes to about 5 or 6 authors out of 7,000 each year. WOW! I was really surprised and humbled to get that news! So, now I am in the running for the Rising Star program and there’s lots of questions I need to tackle and focus on. I will keep you all posted on this very amazing opportunity! Thanks for understanding!

For Every Little Miracle

*Have you seen the newest Pampers commercial? (Well, it’s been around for several months now.) I saw it today which was rare, since I’m not usually home during the day when these kind of commercials come on TV. But, I wanted to post it here because I applaud this advertising campaign. It really is wonderful to see a commercial celebrating all little miracles even those who were born via IVF, surrogate or who were adopted. Even though it saddens me that 291 have disliked this on YouTube (and I can only imagine why), I think it’s awesome. Thank you Pampers for making infertility a little less taboo with this ad. I love it and wanted to post it here.

*I will resume my normal Blog Love Mondays next week! ;-)

Godspell ~ A Review

So, I recently had the pleasure of an invite to see Godspell which opened on Broadway in NYC on Monday. It was originally an off-Broadway production from the 1970′s and has been revised and completely modernized with references to the Macarena, Facebook, Steve Jobs, and even Lindsay Lohan, among others.

First I want to mention how much I loved the intimate setting of the Circle in the Square Theatre. There really wasn’t a bad seat! And although seemingly low budget with very little props, and scenary,  I really enjoyed how the cast used the entire theatre during the show (up and down the aisles, standing on top of the scaffolding staircase, etc.). I also really loved the placement of the guitar players among the audience. There was a musician just two rows in front of my husband and I. And I thought it was quite unique to have a stage that they manipulated with water and trampolines from underneath.

The songs were all upbeat, and the costumes were casual and a bit comedic, but there were some tender moments and really dramatic scenes that caught me by surprise (like the crucifixion). And, I was quite impressed with the vocal talent of the cast. Well done! All in all, I had a lot of fun watching Jesus and his apostles go through the teachings of the bible with a modern twist.  We’re all going through infertility “Day by Day” and I know that faith is truly an important piece of that twisted and confusing puzzle. This is a feel good show that is sure to give you some stress free hours which is something I know you would all appreciate!

So, if you’re in the NY area, there is an exclusive discount I can offer you through this blog post. With the code, GSPRD719, you can get tickets as low as $79.50 (regular price $125). Here is a direct link to that discount: http://tinyurl.com/GodspellBloggerDiscount Prepare ye the way of the Lord!”

Also, there is an amazing Mexican restaurant with phenominal food right in the area that I absolutely recommend. It’s called Toloache. It’s a bit pricey, (like the $15 bowl of their specialty quacamole) but totally worth it!

In closing, here’s a great montage video I found from the show! Check it out! ;-)

My video response!

Do you remember last week when I mentioned the incredible campaign that Redbook and Resolve were hosting? (You can read The Truth About Trying post to learn more about it!) Well they would like you to post a video to share your truth about trying and tell everyone what you wish you had known. So after many takes, (finding quiet time in my house with three kids 4 and under isn’t easy!) and trying to figure out how to best upload my video, I finally got one I thought was response worthy and uploaded it! I stumble a bit through it but I thought this one sounded the most natural. Anyway, here it is…

Now I hope you will share your own! It really can be so liberating to open up and share your thoughts. So speak up! ;-)

Lovin’ Michelle, Chelle, and Kerry!

So unfortunately, I didn’t have a success story to post yesterday but I’m still on the lookout for some more inspiration for this blog and my new book idea! So, if you’ve been successful, please go to this post for the details!

For now, it’s Blog Love time! ;-)

First up is Michelle from Ready For My Bundle. She recently had a funny post about the cute Scavenger hunt that was held at her sister’s house with her neices during Christmas. And in this post, she has some good news on the job front about teaching which will hopefully lead to some more happy news!

A New Leaf: Successfully Navigating the Land of Infertility to Building a FamilyNext, we have Chelle from Once an Infertile.  She is battling infertility for the second time around and recently had a BFN that followed surgery and estrogen patches that should have helped. On a happier note though, she just recently celebrated her daughter’s 2nd birthday! Go give her some support!

P2050624And last we have Kerry from Our New Normal. She just had a blog makeover and she’s been also having a little makeover in her house! So cute! And while her husband receives treatments that are making him so ill (poor thing!), they are getting  homestudy ready! Wish them luck!

A Heavenly Sight!

086 - Copy   So, when my mother died in July of 2006, I inherited her gardenia bush that I have always loved as a kid. (It’s older than me!) When we moved her into our house, she went into a state of shock and lost a lot of leaves. But that Christmas, she grew a few buds and flowered, and I knew it was my mother sending me good wishes for the holidays (which were always her favorite). Gardenias have a very fragrant scent that has always made me smile because it reminds me of my mom and our home and growing up.

Then, the following year, we moved again and once again, my poor gardenia went into shock. I think she was grieving, just as I was, over losing her mother.

Over the next two years, little parts of her died and she never grew any buds and she didn’t flower. She was going through her own infertility, needing just a little TLC. She looked wilted and depressed and I had to cut off huge branches that just dried up. I tried to give her sunlight and water which is what I thought she needed, but nothing seemed to bring her back to life. And in my life, my own infertility was growing more intense and I also felt like a little part of me died inside. And even though I had my daughter, I was wilted and depressed over months of trying unsuccessfully and a recent chemical pregnancy from yet another IVF cycle.

088That summer we put her outside in a sunny spot and when we brought her back inside that fall, she had lots of new growth! But I experienced another negative FET and as I withered, she grew stronger and thrived inside for the first time since she was in our house. As I prepared for another upcoming FET that Christmas, she miraculously started to grow buds. And by the time I found out I was pregnant with my twins, two beautifully fragrant flowers were in bloom! And then a few more followed.

Since then, she has grown even more and now has tons of new shoots! We put her in a brand new spot inside (in our front bay window). And this past holiday, now that my family is complete, she started growing lots and lots of buds!  She now has about 25 buds and has been blooming for the past couple weeks! That is the most she’s ever had! Her infertility is indeed behind her just as mine is today!

I think what I’m trying to say is that sometimes it can seem like we are experiencing the lowest of the lows, feeling like we could just die inside from loneliness, depression, and heartache. But then, with just a little TLC, a little light and warmth, in our own time, we can all be uplifted. Your infertility will be behind you some day, in one way or another. Have faith and never give up!

Sorry for not posting any new topics…this week sort of got away from me! But it seems as though July is a popular month for get togethers (showers, Christenings, birthdays) so I thought I’d recycle my posts on invitations to baby/child related events. Here they are! And don’t be shy! Add a comment or two about your experience or thoughts on this topic! ;-)

Memoir talk…

  memoir

OK, so I apologize for not updating about my memoir on Monday (not sure how interesting my memoir talk is for any of you anyway! ;-) ) but it was my 7 year anniversary! I can’t even believe it’s been so long! See more about that here at my other blog!

Anyway, here’s a little of what’s been going on. I haven’t exactly written more on the memoir itself. But what I have been doing is researching literary agents and how to write a great query letter. I’ve also been drafting some of it in my head. I don’t want to sound clichéd though by writing something like, “1 in 5 couples face infertility. We were one of them…this memoir is my story.” So, I’m trying to rework that. My thoughts were to send out a query to a couple of agents and see who bites. And during the time it takes to get a response, I could be finishing it. My only worry is that someone might be interested to see the finished manuscript before I get it all done?!? Any thoughts? Thanks so much! :-)

A small progression…

deadlineOK, so apparently I miscalculated on my memoir in progress and I didn’t write up until my first daughter’s birth on page 67…it was only my first trimester. But this week, I did write up until her birth and now I am about half way through page 70. It’s a small progression and I am happy to move forward but I am VERY concerned about the deadline I gave myself since June is already half over…I really don’t see myself finishing this thing at this rate!! Well, I better get to it! ;-)
