Fertility News

For Every Little Miracle

*Have you seen the newest Pampers commercial? (Well, it’s been around for several months now.) I saw it today which was rare, since I’m not usually home during the day when these kind of commercials come on TV. But, I wanted to post it here because I applaud this advertising campaign. It really is wonderful to see a commercial celebrating all little miracles even those who were born via IVF, surrogate or who were adopted. Even though it saddens me that 291 have disliked this on YouTube (and I can only imagine why), I think it’s awesome. Thank you Pampers for making infertility a little less taboo with this ad. I love it and wanted to post it here.

*I will resume my normal Blog Love Mondays next week! ;-)

September ICLW!

Hello out there and welcome to my corner of the Internet! I am so excited that Fall is here and I’m looking forward to some fall foliage as I drive into Connecticut today for a family wedding. I’ve been writing this blog for nearly 2 years, shortly after my miracle twins were born via IVF. I also have a daughter who was my first IVF miracle and she is now 4 1/2. I recently wrote a memoir about my journey that I am self publishing and it will be out soon. It’s called Ordinary Miracles and I’m very excited about it!

It’s PCOS awareness month and I’m having a  PCOS Awareness giveaway you should check out! (Not a lot of people have entered…hint, hint!) And there’s been lots of great information, success stories, and bloggers all related to PCOS this month, so stay around for a while and catch up! ;-)

I wanted to link to another great site today for Fertility News Friday. The site has a wealth of info. Go to: Your Guide to PCOS. Happy Reading!

P.S. I’m still looking for guest bloggers to share their experiences with PCOS. If you’re interested in writing a post for this blog this month, contact me at sfinfertility@optimum.net.

Infertility Awareness Friendship Bracelet Exchange!

I just stumbled on Infertility Awareness (a page on FB!). They are doing a really cool project that if you’re interested, involves your immediate participation today! I love it because it’s all about Friendship and can help you meet new friends through the infertility journey! Read below for the details. (This is straight from their “notes.”)

Infertility Awareness Friendship Bracelets: a reminder that you are not alone.

A friendship bracelet is a bracelet given by one person to another as a symbol of friendship. Friendship bracelets are often handmade, usually of embroidery floss or thread. There are various styles and patterns. If you’d like to participate, please do the following:

 1. Email me at pomegranategirl (at) earthlink (dot) com with the Subject Line: Infertility Awareness Friendship Bracelet Swap

- Include your full name, snail mail address and blog URL (if you blog).

- Email me by Friday, August 5, 2011–>(That’s today!!)

 2. By Monday, August 15, 2011 (ish) I will email you and your partner each others information. I’m going to print out everyone’s name and put them in a bowl or something and choose pairs randomly.

 3. Get to know your partner via email (or swap phone numbers between yourselves if you wish) and either make or purchase a friendship bracelet to send them.

- To keep it fair, lets try to each provide around a $10 USD valued bracelet (whether purchased or made).

- The color of embroidery thread that symbolizes infertility is color #814, and to my knowledge it is available at Hobby Lobby and Michael’s as well as other stores and online.

 4. Send out your friendship bracelet to your new friend by Monday, September 19, 2011 (or make other arrangements with them if needed).

 5. Once you receive your friendship bracelet, you are encouraged to post about your bracelet, or about the the swap, etc, you may want to provide a link to your new friend’s blog.

 Notes:

 • Use whatever you already have around, old buttons or beads or both, yarn you may have on hand, anything to make it cool and unique. Your friend will LOVE and cherish it!

 • This site lists how to make several types of friendship bracelets: http://www.beadinggem.com/2010/09/how-to-make-friendship-bracelets.html

 • http://honestlywtf.com/diy/diy-wrap-bracelet/ I like this but think a button would be prettier for the closure.

 • You can also Google “friendship bracelet tutorial” to find something you like.

 • If you aren’t feeling really crafty but do want to participate, I know World Market has cool stuff that isn’t expensive, Ten Thousand Villages carries stuff similar to friendship bracelets.

A Father’s Day Twitterview Today!

A Twitterview is sort of like an interview; a conversation that you can see live (as long as you follow the participants and look under the hashtag). Today’s Twitterview @ 2:00 (EST) will be with @RESOLVEorg, @infertility_guy and @MyDestFamily under the dedicated hashtag #tvFD (for twitter view Father’s Day). Resolve will be twitterviewing Alec Ross who blogs at I Want to be a Daddy. He offers a unique male voice that’s rarely heard (or read about) when it comes to infertility…so do tune in!

 From MyDestinationFamily.org:

On June 17th, leading up to this coming Father’s Day, RESOLVE: The National Infertility Associationand MyDestinationFamily.org will honor this shared struggle through a personal and informative Twitterview with Alec Ross, blogger at I Want to Be a Daddy and regular contributor at FertilityAuthority. Alec will help to shed light on the all too silent male side of infertility in this one-hour Twitter exchange with executive director of RESOLVE, Barb Collura. He will speak to the two-and-a-half year infertility battle he and his wife faced, and the ups and downs that they continue to face today.

*I got this info from an e-mail from Resolve and a post written by Keiko at Hannah Wept, Sarah Laughed. Go here for her full post!
Happy Friday! ;-)

Fertility in the News!

So, I just stumbled on The Infertility Insights published by Keiko Zoll (aka @MiriamsHope) who blogs at Hannah Wept, Sarah Laughed. There are a wealth of cool and interesting articles there that she will be reproducing daily! Love that! She also has a new post of infertility news including info on Khloe Kardashian and Mrs. Utah who has decided her platform will be “Infertility, Pregnancy Loss, and the Gift of Motherhood,” which I think is awesome! ;-)

Check it all out and happy Friday!

Revealing the Heartbreak

Alisyn_Camerota_522_thumb_180x246 So, today I want to bring back a Fertility News Friday post. I saw this linked on Andrea’s blog Life, Love & the Pursuit of Our Fairytale and I wanted to repost it here. It’s a video about TV anchor Alisyn Camerota from Fox & Friends who is sharing her infertility story on the Today show. She tried in vain for years to have a child. She tells Ann Curry that the experience made her determined to help other women struggling with the issue which makes me admire her even more. Click on this video! It’s worth watching!

Is Infertility an Illness?

Bad-Luck-Clover-So the World Health Organization has recognized infertility as a disease but the rest of the world is still having gripes about it being an illness or just bad luck. When we have medical issues like PCOS, endometriosis, a list of gene factors that can interfere with carrying a pregnancy to term and sperm count, motility and morphology issues…it would seem logical to me that these things are not  just bad luck. What do you think about this issue?

I’m linking to a video from The Wright Stuff in England. They debated about whether infertility is an illness or just bad luck. (Currently the NHS covers some treatments  which I think is outstanding! I wish we had that national coverage here in America!) And while this host is rather “cheeky” in his argument, (asking an infertile couple if she’d rather let the money go to her treatment than a cancer patient down the hall), I thought it was interesting to say the least. Also, Sarah from Fertile Mindset  called in to comment. Go to the link below and then comment on what you think!

The Disease We Need To Start Talking About

ignored-campaign-image  I wanted to link to another great article written in the Huffington Post, similar to the Self’ article I linked to last week. The more articles written and books published, and the more we speak up,  the more everyone will start rallying for our cause….

Another thing we can do, as Resolve suggests, is to comment on BOTH these articles (this one and the Self one linked above) thanking them and telling them what you think! You can also take the pledge to help raise awareness!
