Ok, so I am trying to create a list of The Best of the Best of all the Infertility books out there. I want to make 2 lists. One for all the memoir type stories and one for all the factoid type, important info stuff. I will link both with a button to be used as a resource! Sound good? I thought so!
But I need your help! I’ve only read a hand full of books in the past. And while I can easily google all the ones ever printed, I’d much rather take recommendations from all of you. So, if you would be so kind as to leave a comment on one or more of your fave IF books and if time permits, a word or two about why it was awesome, that would be awesome! Thanks for all your help!

Great idea!
Elizabeth Swire Faulkers’ Infertility Survival Handbook was always my favorite. Covers everything from treatment through adoption. http://www.amazon.com/Infertility-Survival-Handbook-Elizabeth-Swire-Falker/dp/1573223816/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1273697442&sr=1-1
Also, Do You Love someone who is infertile is wonderful and different so it doesn’t really fit wither category but is so good. http://www.amazon.com/you-Love-someone-who-Infertile/dp/0984178503
And of course please don;t forget The IVF Companion: A Personal Organizer for your IVF Cycles. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=the+ivf+companion+personal+organizer&x=0&y=0
Taking Charge of Your Fertility – Toni Wechsler
Best women’s health book ever. The book I wish I had when I was 15.
Navigating the Land of IF – Melissa Ford
It’s new, it’s fresh, it’s compassionate and jam-packed with helpful info.
Conquering Infertility – Ali Domar
Haven’t read it, heard good things.
The Infertility Cure – Randine Lewis
Traditional Chinese medicine approach to IF
Silent Sorority – Pamela Mahoney Tsigdinos
Haven’t read it, heard good things.
When Bad Things Happen to Good People – Harold Kushner
A great coping book in general, non-IF specific but damn good
And Hannah Wept: Infertility, Adoption, and the Jewish Couple – Michael Gold
For all the infertile Jews who appreciate a good Torah study
If I think of more I’ll let you know!
I read The Land of If by Melissa Ford and found it to be a helpful, comprehensive guide.
I thoroughly enjoyed So Close by Tertia Loebenberg Albertyn, but it was more of an IF memoir than a practical guide to IF and treatments.
I have read quite a few others, but those two are the ones that immediately spring to mind.
My favorite book was Making Babies: A Proven 3-Month Program for Maximum Fertility by Sami S. David and Jill Blakeway. While I didn’t get pregnant in three months, it did lead me to learn more about my fertility type, natural remedies for infertility, and Traditional Chinese Medicine. It has information for everyone and helps you understand why you may not be conceiving.
This is my favorite:
Unsung Lullabies: Understanding and Coping with Infertility by Martha Diamond, David Diamond, Janet Jaffe
It talks about all aspects of infertility and on why it hurts so much emotionally. It talks about different options out there, but really focuses on the grief and pain it causes.
What a GREAT initiative, when I first heard of IVF I googled it like crazy then googled IVF books and finally bought the books. Here are my three favourite:
1) IVF: The Wayward Stork–What to Expect, Who to Expect It From, and Surviving It All? Lea McCarthy Sarah Tursi – It’s a small book but it gives a lot of practical advice. It does not go into a lot of details but it gives a simplified and not too scary approach to IVF. I read it after finding out we needed IVF and I have to say I went back to it a lot through my cycles.
2)The Complete Guide to IVF: An Inside View of Fertility Clinics and Treatment Kate Brian – This is a more detailed guide that looks into IVF by giving account of all the stages of IVF from a person as well as technical prospective. I would read the chapter according to where I was in my cycle and it helped prepare for each step. It has a step on grieving and one on alternatives to IVF too. It’s from a British prospecitve but even though I don’t live in the UK I could identify.
3) Making Babies: Personal IVF Stories Theresa Miller – This book tells the stories of 14 different people going through IVF and their personal experience with the whole process and how their lives were changed because of it. Hard to read because it feels so real.. Great read!
Thanks everyone! Keep them coming!!
