If you see a Reproductive Endocrinologist, perhaps you have joined (or considered joining) one of the support groups that they most probably have there.
Usually, you can sign up for a weekly session with a small group of couples who are facing similar challenges. The group will most likely discuss treatment options and ways to de-stress. You can have the opportunity to tell your journey, vent about frustrations and learn how to cope. It can become a safe haven, a free time and place to freely speak to others without feeling judged or singled out or put on the spot like you may experience elsewhere (at work, family gatherings, or at friend’s parties/events).
And while it can be quite comforting to meet others face to face who are going through similar trials and tribulations, it can also be terrifying. You may feel ashamed of your infertility or shy about opening up and letting others into a world that is so personal. Well, other couples are most probably feeling the same thing.
Fear is what kept me away from ever joining a support group when I was going through infertility, but I do wish now that I had. Perhaps I would have been able to relinquish the overwhelming doubt and despair I had felt a lot earlier and create lasting friendships with couples in my area.
If you’ve reached out to other infertiles, you already know that they can be incredibly supportive on a level that no one else can really match. So, let them in and discover a healing place; a supportive refuge like no other.
How have support groups helped you? Please leave a comment! Thanks!

I’ve been fortunate to feel like I’m part of an informal online support group – but I have not (yet) taken advantage of in-person groups offered by my fertility clinic.
In part it’s fear, and in part it’s the timing that the group meets (my work has me working all hours), and the fact that it requires me to travel a fair distance to get there.
But you have me thinking about this again and I’m going to keep my eyes open when I start doing treatments again. Thanks for the food for thought!
Thank you for sharing! If you do venture out and join, come back and let us know how it went! We would love to know!
