I’m sure many of you have contemplated a “diet” of some kind as one of your New Year’s resolutions. Well let’s look at ways that make you healthier and feul your fertility at the same time.
“Eating right” will help your fertility by balancing your hormones which in turn boosts your reproductive system. Also, it helps you maintain a healthy weight which increases your ability to get pregnant as well.
But what does “eating right” actually mean? Well, here are some things to avoid:
- junk food and most things processed (This will “clog” your body and make it work harder to detoxify. By eliminating these things, you will have extra energy for reproduction.)
- alcohol and caffeine (Both have been shown to reduce fertility in both men and women.)
- Xenoestrogens (This is found in many types of foods through environmental chemicals and pesticides which disrupts the balance of hormones and can effect your fertility.)

Here are things to add to your diet to help you “eat right:”
- Eat organically as much as possible specifically dairy, vegetables, and meats. (This helps eliminate extra hormones and xenoestrogens and therefore boosts your reproduction functions.)
- Eat plenty of essential fatty acids and nurtrients like calcium, zinc, magnesium, Vitamin A, B6, C and antioxidants. (These help balance hormone levels and can reduce stress on reproductive organs.)
When I started seeing an acupuncturist, she recommended that I eat mostly organic including whole grains, meats, fruits, (specifically antioxidant rich berries), vegetables and dairy as much as possible. She said if I was injecting my body with hormones (needed for an IVF or IUI cycle), then I didn’t need “extra” hormones typically found in most meats and dairy that aren’t organic. [A good tip is to look for the words "cage free" or "free range" on chickens and eggs.]
When I did start to eat this way, I was really surprised at how good I felt. I slept better, had less headaches and stomach aches, and felt so much more energized. Try it and see how you feel!
