Hydrate your body, Warm your Belly

I’ve learned from my experience that it is essential to drink plenty of fluids during infertility.  Not only will it cleanse your kidneys and help increase cervical mucus, it will also help keep illnesses and colds away by boosting your immune system. But, what should you drink?

Well, water is probably the most important drink, so plenty of this is key. A person on average needs about 2 liters a day whether you are infertile or not. And by refilling a reusable bottle, you can be environmentally friendly as well. I know it’s rather tasteless to drink water all day. But, try to avoid caffiene and  limit sugary drinks as much as possible.

And perhaps what is just as important as what you drink is the temperature of the drink itself.  In my part of the world (NY) we are experiencing a pretty cold winter so far. Today it’s 12 degrees (or at least feels that way with the windchill) AND snowing. If it is cold where you are, it is not only important to stay hydrated, but also to warm your belly.

My acupuncturist (who was specialized in infertility) was always very particular about how warm my lower belly was. To put it simply, she told me that if you’re trying to grow fabulous follicles and embryos, you want them to be in a warm cozy place to survive and thrive.

If you are having a bitter winter right now, to combat the cold, drink warm herbal tea (which is mostly water anyway) throughout the day. If you’re not a tea drinker, there are plenty of flavors to choose from that may sway you away from your mocha lattes. (I always like mine with a touch of honey!) Plus so many are loaded with wonderful antioxidants, which is a bonus for your health. And just the opposite is true if you live in a  warm climate and your always downing iced drinks. Drinking things at room temperature is better…so leave your water out of the fridge or go with the tea. Your growing follicles and thriving embryos will thank you! ;-)
